This Privacy Policy explains how The Rodent Control Network of Eugene ("we," "us," or "the network") collects, uses, and protects information when you visit rodentcontroleugene.com ("the site"). By using the site, you consent to the practices described below.

1. Information we collect

1.1 Information you provide directly

The network does not currently operate any contact forms, account systems, or transactional functionality on the site. If you choose to email us at network@rodentcontroleugene.com, we receive the email address you send from and whatever information you include in your message. We use that information only to respond to your inquiry and do not add you to any mailing list.

1.2 Information collected automatically

When you visit the site, our web server and analytics provider automatically receive standard technical information that any website would receive, including:

  • Your IP address (truncated by our analytics provider, see Section 2)
  • Browser type and version, operating system, and device type
  • The page you visited and the page you came from (referrer URL)
  • The date and time of your visit and approximate duration
  • General geographic location at the city or region level (derived from IP)

2. Google Analytics

The site uses Google Analytics 4, a web analytics service provided by Google LLC ("Google"), to understand how visitors find and use the site. Google Analytics uses small text files called cookies, stored on your device, along with the technical information described above, to compile statistical reports about site activity.

2.1 What Google Analytics collects

On this site, Google Analytics collects:

  • Page views and navigation paths across the site
  • Session duration and engagement time per page
  • Referrer information (which search engine or external link sent you here)
  • Approximate geographic location derived from IP address
  • Device and browser characteristics (screen size, OS, browser version)
  • Event data (outbound link clicks to listed operators, scroll depth, file downloads if any)

2.2 IP anonymization

The site is configured so that Google Analytics anonymizes IP addresses before they are stored. The final octet of your IPv4 address (or the equivalent portion of your IPv6 address) is truncated by Google before storage, which means we do not see or store full IP addresses for analytics purposes.

2.3 Data retention

Google Analytics is configured with a data retention period of 14 months for user-level and event-level data. After that retention window, data is automatically deleted from Google's servers in accordance with our configured retention settings. Aggregated, non-personally-identifiable reports may be retained longer.

2.4 Cross-site tracking and advertising features

We have disabled all Google Analytics Advertising Features, including Google Signals, remarketing audiences, and cross-device tracking. The site does not serve Google Ads, does not participate in any advertising remarketing program, and does not share Analytics data with any Google advertising product.

2.5 How to opt out of Google Analytics

You can opt out of Google Analytics tracking on any website (not just ours) by installing the official Google Analytics Opt-Out Browser Add-on. You can also block cookies in your browser settings, use a privacy-focused browser, or use browser extensions like uBlock Origin or Privacy Badger. Doing so will not affect your experience on the site, since we do not use Analytics data to personalize content.

2.6 Google's privacy policy

For information about how Google handles data collected through Analytics, please review the Google Privacy Policy and the Google Analytics Privacy and Data Security overview.

3. Cookies and similar technologies

A cookie is a small text file stored on your device by your browser. The site uses cookies for the following purposes:

  • Analytics cookies (Google Analytics): Set by Google Analytics to distinguish unique visitors and track session activity. These cookies typically expire after two years for the main client identifier and 24 hours for session identifiers.
  • Functional cookies: The site does not currently set any first-party functional cookies. There are no login sessions, shopping carts, or user preferences stored.

You can control or delete cookies through your browser settings. Most browsers allow you to refuse cookies or alert you before a cookie is stored. Refusing cookies will not break any functionality on the site.

4. How we use information

The aggregated, anonymized information we collect through Google Analytics is used for the following purposes only:

  • To understand which guides and pages are most useful to readers so we can improve the editorial content
  • To identify broken links, slow-loading pages, or technical errors
  • To understand the rough geographic distribution of visitors (so we know whether the directory is actually reaching local Eugene homeowners)
  • To track outbound clicks to listed operators in aggregate, as a measure of whether the directory is helping people find the right operator

We do not use analytics data to identify individual visitors, build behavioral profiles, or target advertising.

5. How we do not use information

This site does not, and will not without an updated and prominently disclosed Privacy Policy:

  • Sell, rent, or trade any visitor data to third parties
  • Share email addresses or contact information with the operators listed in the directory
  • Use visitor information for advertising targeting, remarketing, or behavioral advertising
  • Build cross-site behavioral profiles of individual visitors
  • Send unsolicited marketing email

6. Third-party services

The site uses a small number of third-party services to function. Each is listed below with its purpose and a link to its own privacy policy.

  • Google Analytics (Google LLC) — site analytics. Privacy policy.
  • Google Fonts (Google LLC) — serves the Manrope and Inter typefaces used on the site. Google Fonts may log IP address and a request timestamp when fonts are requested. Privacy policy.
  • Unsplash (some illustrative imagery is served from Unsplash's CDN). Privacy policy.

The site does not embed social media widgets, comment systems, chat tools, or other third-party scripts beyond those listed above.

7. Outbound links to listed operators

The expert directory contains links to the websites and phone numbers of third-party rodent control operators. When you click those links, you leave the site and are governed by the privacy policies and terms of the operator's own website or phone system. The network is not responsible for the privacy practices of any external operator. We do not pass any visitor data to operators when you click their links.

8. Data security

The site is served over HTTPS with a valid TLS certificate, so traffic between your browser and our server is encrypted in transit. We do not store visitor information on our own servers beyond standard web access logs, which are retained for no more than 30 days for security and debugging purposes.

9. Children's privacy

The site is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided personal information through the site, please contact us at network@rodentcontroleugene.com and we will delete it.

10. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have specific rights under applicable privacy laws regarding personal information about you. These rights may include:

  • The right to know what personal information is collected
  • The right to access a copy of your personal information
  • The right to request deletion of your personal information
  • The right to correct inaccurate personal information
  • The right to opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information
  • The right not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights

Because the network operates a strictly informational website and does not maintain user accounts, the practical exercise of these rights mostly involves opting out of Google Analytics (see Section 2.5) or asking us to delete an email thread. To exercise any of these rights, contact network@rodentcontroleugene.com.

10.1 California residents (CCPA / CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have specific rights under the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act. The categories of personal information collected on the site are limited to those described in Section 1 above. The network does not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising.

10.2 EU/UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR)

If you are accessing the site from the EU, UK, or other jurisdictions with similar data protection regulations, the legal basis for our analytics processing is your consent. By continuing to use the site after seeing this Privacy Policy, you consent to the practices described here. You may withdraw consent at any time by following the opt-out instructions in Section 2.5.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will revise the "Last Updated" date at the top of this page. For material changes (for example, adding a new analytics provider, introducing forms that collect personal information, or any change to our funding model), we will post a prominent notice on the home page for at least 30 days. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
